How can Physical Therapy services be delivered through telehealth?

Much of the information needed for a physical therapist to diagnose and develop a treatment plan can be done without actually touching a patient.

Through video, your therapist can observe how you move as well as assess your strengths and weaknesses.

We then can provide valuable insight and education along with exercise and self-treatment techniques you can use to help you feel and move better.

What conditions can I receive treatment for using Telehealth?

Multiple injuries and conditions can be addressed via telehealth:
  • Acute and chronic injuries
  • Orthopedic conditions like tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, arthritis, etc.
  • Low back or neck pain
  • Neurological conditions such as Muscular Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, etc.
  • Shoulder pain or limitations
  • Safe, effective exercise programs for home workouts

Do I need a prescription to use telehealth?

Florida state laws allow patients to have direct access to physical therapy, even virtually through telehealth,  without a physician’s referral or prescription.

How do I make an appointment?

You can schedule an appointment:
  • call 1(941)312-1591
  • email bryan@active4lifesarasota.com

What can I expect from my first telehealth visit?

Your first virtual session is an opportunity for your physical therapist to understand you and your unique needs and specific condition.
  1. Your physical therapist will ask you questions regarding your symptoms.
  2. We will then assess how you move to determine your strengths and any limitations.
  3. Then, we will discuss what is causing your symptoms.
  4. Finally, we will create a personalized treatment plan. Treatments may include exercise, stretches, and self-mobilization techniques that can be completed at home.
  5. Follow up telehealth sessions may be scheduled to monitor your progress.

What will I need for my telehealth appointment?

  • A computer, tablet, or mobile device with an integrated camera and microphone.  Don’t worry, most devices have these built in already.
  • There is nothing that will be downloaded onto your device.
  • A strong internet connection with an updated browser that allows you to stream video.
  • A space in your home or office that will allow you to move freely and safely
  • A chair, yoga mat, bed or sofa to sit or lie down may be helpful.

How do I prepare for my telehealth visit?

  • Plan to arrive 5 minutes prior to your appointment time to test that your video and microphone are working.
  • Restart your computer before the session starts.
  • Close out any other running programs to make sure no other program on your device is using your camera/microphone
  • Video quality will be greatly improved if other streaming services such as Netflix are turned off during the duration of the call.
  • Place your device propped up on a stable surface a few feet away to allow your therapist to have a full view of you for movement assessment and exercise instruction.
  • Write down any questions / concerns to discuss with your therapist

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move around easily.  Please try to have the area of injury or pain easily accessible for viewing.  For example, if you have an upper body issue, such as neck, shoulder, elbow pain, a short sleeve shirt or tank top would work.  Shorts are best for viewing lower body injuries / areas of pain.

What if I don’t have any workout equipment at home?

No exercise equipment? No problem. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish using your own body weight and a couple household items found around the house.

What if I have technical difficulties?

Don’t worry! If technology is not your thing, we will walk you through and troubleshoot any issues via telephone.

Daily aches and pains? Injuries? Your journey to resume an active life can start today from the comfort of your home. There’s no need to take two hours out of your day to get ready and go travel to see a specialist. Virtual visits give you the ease, and comfort, of getting the care you need from the place you're most comfortable - your home.

Bruce Z.

"Bryan is the most responsive, helpful, professional health care provider I have ever encountered.  He got everything right! I'm feeling much better because of him. And, I must be getting better because my golf game has improved as well!  All in all he is a real credit to his profession."

Edgar S.

"I can’t stop recommending your services.  I have told everyone I meet in Sarasota that needs a physical therapist, that you can’t go anywhere else except to see Jennifer Regar at Active 4 Life. Why?  Because I am a living testament. My friends have seen me go from being on a walker and depressed to someone who active, basically doing everything, including traveling to different parts of the world.  Jennifer is extremely smart, patient and skillful. I could not possibly have the life that I have today if it wasn’t for her."

Alan P.

"I can’t speak highly enough about my experience training with Jennifer Regar.  She has a doctorate in physical therapy which has taken my training to a much higher level than I have ever had, and has helped me to be pain free, more flexible and stronger. As a result my golf game has dramatically improved. Best of all, she makes working out enjoyable & fun!"
